Measuring Instructions for Your Sunroom Windows & Doors
To ensure your new Eze-Breeze® panels and doors fit perfectly, accurate measurements are essential. Please follow these steps carefully.
1. Stand Outside the Sunroom
All measurements should be taken from the outside of the room. Imagine you are standing in your yard looking toward the sunroom.
– Wall 1: The right-hand wall
– Wall 2: The center wall (front wall facing you)
– Wall 3: The left-hand wall
This system makes it easy for us to reference the same areas you are measuring.
2. Understand the Terms
– Trap Window: Four sided windows usually between frame and roof on wall 1 and wall 3.
– Exact Measurement: The total rough opening size from framing to framing. This is the actual width or height of the opening.
– Daylight Opening (DO): The visible glass or vinyl area inside the frame. The DO is always smaller than the exact measurement because it excludes the frame itself.
When measuring for new Eze-Breeze® products, always provide the exact opening measurement.
3. Take Three Measurements
Openings are not always perfectly square, so it’s important to measure in three places:
– Width: Measure at the top, middle, and bottom.
– Height: Measure at the left, center, and right.
Always use the smallest of the three measurements. This ensures the unit will fit correctly into the opening.
4. Round & Record
– Round your measurements to the nearest ⅛ inch.
– Write them clearly on your order form, making sure to label which wall and opening they belong to.
5. Double-Check Before Submitting
– Confirm that all openings are measured from the outside.
– Verify that each measurement is marked as width x height (W x H).
– Check that you’ve noted any doors, trap windows, or kick plates.
Tip: A steel tape measure works best. Avoid using cloth or fiberglass tapes, as they can stretch and cause errors.
6. Measuring Gable or Trapezoid Windows
Some sunrooms have trapezoid-shaped windows above the main units. These require additional measurements:
Trapezoid Windows
- Bottom Width: Measure across the bottom (left to right).
2. Top Width: Measure across the top (left to right).
3. Side Heights: Measure each side from bottom to top (they may be different). Again, use the smallest measurement in each direction if there is a variation.
Tip for Angled Windows: If possible, also take a photo of the opening and include it with your order form. This helps us confirm the slope and fit before manufacturing.
Important Advisory: Measure Only After Framing Is Complete
All measurements must be taken after the frame walls and openings are fully built and installed.
– Do not measure from plans or rough sketches.
– Do not measure before the sunroom framing is finished.
– Products are built to your exact specifications — if the framing changes after ordering, the windows or doors will not fit.
Waiting until framing is complete ensures accuracy and avoids costly mistakes.
Final Reminder
Before submitting your measurements and placing your order, please confirm that all framing work is complete. Measuring and ordering before framing is finished may result in products that do not fit correctly. Double-checking now will save you time, cost, and frustration later.
